Mission Control is now Orion DFM

It’s with great pride that we announce the new name for our drone fleet management solution: Orion DFM.

Orion is probably the most recognizable constellation in the sky. In fact, the first known depiction of the constellation is a carving in a mammoth’s tusk dated to around 35,000 years ago.

Orion’s distinctive shape, complete with belt, sword and bow, led civilizations throughout history to see a giant humanoid figure. The ancient Babylonians called it the Holy Shepherd, the Egyptians saw it as a god called Sah, and in the Middle East the constellation was known simply as the giant. The name Orion comes to us through Greek myth, where Orion was a supernaturally large and powerful hunter.

How does this relate to our drone fleet management platform?

The mythological Orion was known for his strength and his skill. So it seemed the perfect name for our platform - a solution of great power and endless capabilities. The constellation also contains some of the sky’s brightest stars, lighting the sky and providing a useful aid for navigation, which reflects the awareness and control afforded by real-time airspace monitoring and data sharing. Finally, just as people the world over recognize Orion in the sky, our aim is for everyone to recognize Orion DFM as the go-to tool when they have a mission to complete.
